360 degree feedback definition

Question
What is the definition of "360 degree feedback"?
Answer
360 degree feedback is a human resources term referring to individual performance feedback that comes from all levels around the recipient, including subordinates and peers as well as the traditional supervisory feedback. It is also referred to as multi-rater, multi-level or multi-source feedback.

Such feedback may be used for performance appraisals or to provide feedback for training and self-development. It should be noted that there is some debate over the use of this type of process and practitioners are advised to do extensive research before using it.
