Acceptable quality level (AQL) definitionQuestion What is the definition of "acceptable quality level (AQL)"?
Answer Acceptable quality level or acceptable quality limit (AQL) is the maximum allowable percentage of defective samples from a series of lots. Any number above AQL is unsatisfactory.
An AQL sampling plan will take into consideration the lot or batch size and the desired level of quality. The desired AQL standard will then indicate the minimum number of pieces in that lot which must pass inspection in order for the lot to be acceptable. MIL-STD-105 or the commercial equivalent, ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 are sampling plans that contain all the necessary tables and complete directions for use. If you want to manufacture product for the US Government, particularly the military, expect to be required to deliver on these standards.
