Acquiring financial recordsQuestion Can I get a loan, or investment capital, if I have no accounting and financial records or projections?
Answer Not likely. Banks and potential investors know that financial management is part of running a business. If you can't demonstrate your ability in this area, they won't deal with you.
Find a professional to help you with this. First, try the nearest Small Business Development Center (SBDC; visit www.sba.gov and click the links to find local resources). Also, inquire with SBA Business Information Centers (BIC) and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) training programs. Both provide economic and business expertise. Finally, contact your local university or community college, and ask your bank, attorney and accountant for recommendations.
