Active listening definitionQuestion What is the definition of "active listening"?
Answer Active listening is to make a conscious effort to hear and understand what others involved in a conversation. In active listening, also sometimes known as empathetic listening, the listener paraphrases what the speaker has said and seeks confirmation that their understanding is correct.
Active listening does not require agreement with the speaker, but only that the listener understand accurately what the speaker is saying. Active listening is useful in emotionally charged situations, situations where understanding is critical, where consensus and clarity are desired in resolving conflict and where trust is sought.
