What is the definition of "appreciation"? 
Answer
In accounting terms, appreciation is accounting for the increase in value of an asset. Assets may increase in value due to factors such as inflation, market conditions or capital improvements. For example, real estate is most often used to demonstrate asset appreciation. Another example would be commodities held in inventory.
