at-will employment definition

Question
What is the definition of "at-will employment"?
Answer
At-will employment is a legal term meaning that either party, the employee or employer, may terminate the employment relationship at any time for any reason. This does not release the employer from compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regulations, public policy and written or implied employment contracts.

Employment laws, including at-will employment policies, vary widely from state to state so it is wise to consult with a competent authority when hiring and managing employees, as well as when producing and distributing written employment policies
