Balancing kids & work in a home-based businessQuestion How can I keep my young kids at home -- instead of day-care -- and still conduct business professionally from home?
Answer It depends upon what you do. If you have a business where distractions and noise do not disrupt running your business, it makes sense to keep them home.
However, don't be too afraid -- or too thrifty -- to seek help. Whether it's daycare or pre-school, a nanny, or a mother's helper for when older kids get home from school, supplemental help can let a work-at-home parent focus on work -- at least a few uninterrupted hours each day. If your kids are older, get them involved. Whether it's stuffing envelopes or collating papers, for example, involving them in your business is a great benefit of being home-based. They'll enjoy seeing what you do, and they'll get a better appreciation for what "work" is all about.
