Answer Use other books as idea starters. At this point in the life of publishing, there aren't too many original design ideas left to uncover.
Visit a library or bookstore. Check the section that covers your topic and review how others in the category have created the look and "feel" of their books. If you find a book you like (on any subject), dig into its elements. Consider the binding, layout, texture, margins, type style - everything. Check it out, or buy it, to use as a model.
