Branding brainstorming

Question
How do I start to brainstorm to develop my personal brand?
Answer
Consider what is and isn't working for you, your company, industry, or job. What's missing? How can that lead to an opportunity for you?

Next, look at people and organizations that brand themselves well - whether that's a major product, like a soft drink or fast-food chain, or a local service provider. What makes them special? Compare that to yourself. If you were a competitor, how would you critique yourself?

Then hold a self-brand hypothesis session with people whose opinion you trust. Work with an initial hypothesis based on hunches and intuition. And remember, when brainstorming, "no idea is a bad idea." Use these questions to prod your hypothetical thinking:

- What's different, special, unusual, or weird about the brand You?

- If you were managing this brand, where would you take it in five years?

- What is the key piece of advice you would give someone developing this brand?
