Building a customer base

What's the most effective way to build a client base for a new business? 
The most effective way to build a client base for a new business is to network with people you may already know, such as:

- Former customers, if you've already been in business, even as an employee.

- Make sure you let friends and family know what you're doing and ask them for referrals.

- People you do business with: Your dry cleaner, mechanic, lawyer, insurance salesman, CPA, etc.

- Join and participate in your local chamber of commerce, as well as organized networking groups

Prioritize the list, leading with the people you know best and would feel the most comfortable asking for referrals. Remember, it's not just about who these people are; it's also about the people they know.
