Business without employees

Question
Can I run my new business without employees?
Answer
Of course. There are literally millions of one-person companies in existence.

Some small businesses can operate successfully with the owner/operator as the sole employee. Some professional service businesses, for example, operate effectively with the owner as the sole employee for an extended period of time.

Once customer demand for services grows, other employees or service providers may need to be added. Service businesses can sometimes use independent contractors rather than employees. This requires careful adherence to tax laws defining an "independent contractor."
