Controling travel costsQuestion Should we develop a travel policy to help control costs?
Answer Yes. If performing your business requires employees to travel, you should have a clear travel policy.
Your policy should guide the traveler in such things as cost limits and category parameters on air travel, hotels, meals, car rental, etc. It also should specifically note what expenses are and are not covered. The policy should set ground rules for when and whether travel is even to be undertaken (in lieu of other types of contact, like electronic conferencing, Webinars and video conferencing, for example). Reporting and receipt requirements must be clearly stipulated to prevent abuse and fraud.
