According to the SBA, after a disaster loan application has been approved, security of a first or second mortgage on the damaged real estate has been established, and complete and accurate loan-closing documents have been submitted, the next step is to issue a check to the homeowner. However, funds will be paid to the homeowner in installments as needed to repair or replace the damaged property.
