Drug testing definition

Question
What is drug testing?
Answer
Drug testing is a screening of a person's blood or urine for the purpose of detecting the use of alcohol or controlled substances.

Drug testing is use by some firms to screen out candidates or workers who may be under the influence of drugs. An employer can generally justify drug testing due to safety or security requirements or other similar reasons, such as for those who operate equipment or drive company vehicles on public roadways.

Certain laws or regulations require drug testing. For example, federal motor carrier safety administration regulations require pre-employment and other testing for alcohol and controlled substances as a condition of employment for commercial motor vehicle drivers who are subject to federal government Department of Transportation safety regulations.
