Email openQuestion What technology is used to determine whether an email has been opened?
Answer Each HTML email campaign you send contains a small (one pixel by one pixel) image called a "web beacon." You can't see it. It is in the HTML code that is "behind the scenes" and is written like an image, so it is recognized as such. As soon as a list member views your email campaign, a message is transmitted to your service's tracking mechanism and is recorded as an email that has been opened.
Email can only be identified as opened when it is sent with HTML formating, as opposed to using simple text.
