Expanded policy manual topics

Question
What are some of the expanded topics that can be covered in a policy manual?
Answer
Specialty policy manuals can be prepared for a wide variety of topics. The definition of work operations in a policy or procedure manual helps to assure that work tasks are performed correctly and safely. The manual can also be used to orient and train workers on proper work procedures. These manuals also help the organization comply with various government safety or regulatory issues.

Two examples include:

- Organizations dealing with hazardous materials or working conditions can create a policy manual to address safety guidelines, hazard communication or chemical safety.

- Organizations involved in transportation, or that use employee drivers operating vehicles on the job, may create a driver safety manual. This manual can cover topics such as driver safety, vehicle safety checks, accident reporting, drug and alcohol testing and other procedures.

Any issue or topic that is important to communicate to employees can be outlined in a policy or procedure manual to guide employee work activities or conduct on the matter.
