Family concerns for new business
How can I assure my spouse that using our savings to start my home-based business is a good idea?
It's important to understand your spouse's concerns. Are you going to be using all of your savings? Is this your retirement account? Are you young enough to be able to replenish this money in another way if your business is not income producing? Does your spouse feel you've not done enough planning to make this a successful business?
Open communication is key. Listen without judging or being defensive. Then state your case. It may take more than one conversation; in fact, plan to have these talks as often as needed.
You may not have all the answers at this point in time, and you'll want your spouse to feel welcome to ask how business is progressing. With proper planning and open communications, you'll foster support from your spouse and heighten your chances of success.
