Finding waste

Consider these three classic ways to identify waste:

Look in trash containers. Whathat materials, supplies and work is being thrown out (like a report prepared but not read)? The supplies and materials might indicate problems in production or control.

Monitor water coolers, break rooms, smoking areas and Internet access. Is bona fide break time being inappropriately extended and leading to waste?

Track product returns. See what's being wasted through quality issues, improper packaging or any of the dozens of other problems in the supply chain that lead to returns.
