Fiscal year designation definition

Question
How do you identify the fiscal year of a corporation when it begins in one year and ends in another?
Answer
The fiscal year designation is the year it ends.

For example: When a company has a fiscal year that begins April 1st of 2007 and ends 12 months later, on March 31, 2008, that is considered its 2008 fiscal year, even though the year began in, and had 9 months in 2007.
