Greeting customers in retailQuestion How do you handle the "I'm Just Looking" customer?
Answer No matter when in a presentation the customer says "I'm just looking," you should:
- Offer them a "verbal map" of the store. As you're talking, one of several things is likely to happen: They will say "Ok, thank you. I will look," or they may come clean with you and actually tell you what they were looking for, or at the very least they will start heading in the direction of what they had in mind. - Start selling the store by saying something along the lines of: "We always welcome lookers here, let me show you….” Then show them something your business excells in. These are non-threatening ways to build a bond with the "just looking" customer.
