Home-based business insurance needsQuestion What kind of insurance coverage do I need for my home-based business?
Answer Start by assuming your homeowners insurance will NOT cover your business in the home. Chances are you will have little if any business asset or liability coverage under that policy. The good news is that in-home business policies (or riders added to existing policies) are not prohibitively expensive and, as with any insurance, will give you peace of mind.
You'll be looking for loss coverage for your computer, technology, furnishings and the like, as well as liability -- the 'slip-and-fall' policy that covers injuries that happen on your property. Dont' forget to add business coverage for your auto use in the course of your business. Talk with your insurance agent for more information and be sure to check more than one company.
