Whether your home-based business has to have a business licence really depends on where you live. Some localities require you to merely register as a home-based business, others require a business license, but that could be only for certain types of businesses.

Call your local chamber of commerce to see what they know about the licensing laws. That way, by the time you contact your city or county business zoning, code enforcement or license office, you should know what is required of you, so you don't pay more license fees than is necessary.
