Public relations or publicity is vital to any business. Contact your local media outlets - newspaper, radio, TV, etc. - and establish a relationship with the editors, reporters or producters. Educate them about your availability as a local expert on your industry and related issues. Send them a bio, your book, or a link to your Web site.

Whenever you've achieved any recognition or special training, or have accomplished a newsworthy feat, write a press release and send it to those same local media outlets. Land a big news - and notable - account? Send a release. Volunteer for local charity and civic efforts? Spread the word.
