Insurance and telecommutingQuestion Will my employer's insurance, or my home-owner's policy, cover me when I telework at home?
Answer Typically, your own home-owner's (or renter's) property and casualty insurance will cover some losses and liability. But you must check with your insurance agent for two things:
1. Make sure that there are no exclusions in your basic policy for any losses incurred while working at home 2. Determine what you have to do to add specialty coverage that in fact protects you in the event of losses resulting from the business activity By all means, make sure you have proper and adequate coverage, and then decide who should pay for any extraordinary expense you may incur as a result of teleworking - you or your employer.
