American minorities of all types are discovering the American dream of business ownership. And it shows in the growth of minority ownership and contribution.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, of the 23 million non-farm small businesses in 2002:

- Minorities owned 4.1 million firms
- Generated $694.1 billion in revenues
- Employed 4.8 million workers.

Ownership by group was:
- 6.8 percent by Hispanic Americans
- 5.2 percent by African Americans
- 4.8 percent by Asian Americans
- 0.9 percent by American Indians or Alaskan Natives
- 0.14 percent by Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders.
