Policy information as protection against lawsuits

Question
Since policy information can be used against the employer in a lawsuit, is it better not to have a policy manual?
Answer
Verbal promises, as well as written policy information, can be presented as evidence in a legal claim. If your firm operates without written employment policies, there is a greater likelihood of inadvertent violation of employment laws or engagement in discriminatory practices.

Properly prepared personnel policies that are consistently administered are a firm's best defense against legal claims.
