Process bottle-neck

A process is no faster than its slowest point, often referred to as "a bottle-neck." Every process is made up of various steps and the process as a whole will be limited by the step with the lowest capacity.

Change the capacity of a bottle-neck and you change the performance of the entire process. Eliminating the bottle-neck is usually the cheapest way to increase capacity and improve profits.
