Psychological testing definition

Question
What is psychological testing?
Answer
Psychological tests are instruments or procedures used to infer generalizations about a person's behavior. They're used by some firms to screen job candidates' suitability to certain personality, mental and/or psychological demands of a job.

To minimize likelihood of legal claims, it is important to show a clear business purpose for the test. Limit its inquiry into those areas that are related to job performance. Then protect confidentiality of test results. Also, avoid inquiries that probe into private aspects of one's life.

If psychological testing is used, it is best to work with an industrial psychologist experienced in development, administration, and interpretation of employment tests.
