Regulatory impact on small business

Question
How do compliance with government regulations affect small businesses?
Answer
According to the Office of Advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses spend more than double per employee per year to comply with all of the various regulations, including tax filing, environmental, etc., than big businesses do.

The most recent figure puts the small business regulatory compliance number at over $7,000 per employee per year, and this number was an increase over findings from previous research on this topic.

Clearly, regulatory compliance is a very onerous and expensive proposition for small businesses. And while regulations are handed down from government agencies which are not staffed by elected officials, regulations are promulgated from laws that politicians pass, which is an excellent reason business owners should be involved in the political process and make sure that limiting unnecessary regulations is part of any election debate at the state and federal levels.
