Small business involvement in public policy

Question
Why should small business owners be active in politics and the public policy debate?
Answer
Small business should become knowledgable about and involved in the political and public policy issues being debated and that affect their business.

How? Become a member of your local chamber of commerce and at least one national advocacy organization. Join one or more of the organizations that advocate for small businesses. Contact your professional trade association; many have legislative or regulatory committees that keep members abreast of important rule changes that could affect the industry.

Small businesses represent the largest segment in the U.S. economy with the most companies and employees. Though numerous, our voice is often fragmented and consequently, weak. Banding together and supporting lobbying professionals, our voice is louder and more effective.
