Starting a translation business
How do I start my own translation business?
Translating requires high levels of competence and confidentiality. This means that referrals are probably going to be a significant source of business.
You may wish to establish your credentials and obtain practice by working as a freelancer for any of the dozens of translation companies already in existence. In the mean time you can market yourself to companies that focus on international trade, where more than one language is used.
It will help if you have specific skills such as business, scientific, legal or other technical language ability. This will allow you to differentiate yourself among the competition. You may also wish to target your skills toward either the spoken or written word. The long term key for success will be to develop your specific services and market them to likely clients.
