Types of patents

Question
Are there different types of patents?
Answer
Yes, there are three basic types of patents: utility, plant and design.

Utility patents are available for processes, machines, articles of manufacture, compositions of matter, and improvements to any of these.

A plant patent may be granted to one who invents and asexually reproduces a new variety of plant.

Design patents are granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture.
