Working from home

How do I find companies that hire people to work from home?
Beware signs and ads that say you can make a lot of money with your computer at home. Most have been ruled by the Federal Trade Commission ( as not legitimate. Any work you do for any company should be preceded by a thorough background and reference check. And if you talk to any company about working for them and they ask you for money, don't walk, run away.

Teleworkers (working for a company from a home office) are employees of a company, usually ones who have an employment history with that company, and they are able to do some work from a home office.

Other companies hire independent small business owners and "outsource" work to them. These include outsourced customer call center or customer service representatives.
