Working from home
How do I find companies that hire people to work from home?
Beware signs and ads that say you can make a lot of money with your computer at home. Most have been ruled by the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov) as not legitimate. Any work you do for any company should be preceded by a thorough background and reference check. And if you talk to any company about working for them and they ask you for money, don't walk, run away.
Teleworkers (working for a company from a home office) are employees of a company, usually ones who have an employment history with that company, and they are able to do some work from a home office.
Other companies hire independent small business owners and "outsource" work to them. These include outsourced customer call center or customer service representatives.
