Zoning documentationQuestion I want to have my property rezoned for commercial use. What should I take with me to the planning meeting?
Answer Be prepared to field the following questions or present the following materials:
1. Drawings or sketches of what you envision, so the official can fully understand your intentions. 2. Does the property need to be OSHA compliant? This includes handicapped access, interior sprinkler systems, etc. 3. Is there adequate parking for the number of customers you expect? 4. What kind of signage do you plan to put up? Do current zoning rules allow the signs you envision? 5. What about environmental concerns? Is the site clear of buried fuel tanks, contamination or other waste or debris? Consult with a local real estate attorney experienced with such requests - and familiar with this particular zoning board. It's always helpful to know a little bit about the personalities on the board.
